Each year we have Norfolk High School students give a short presentation to the Norfolk Board of Education to showcase what they are doing at NHS, which we refer to as Focus on Students. This year we had students from our Technical Theater Department and students from our FFA organization present. NHS offers a wide array of opportunities for students to be involved in something they are passionate about. The Technical Theater students presented on a variety of technical skills they have learned by being involved in their department along with strong leadership skills. These students understand and model collaboration and teamwork. The FFA students also demonstrated their passion for agriculture and their goals for this school year. These students also have shown great leadership within their program as well as the value of collaboration and teamwork. Perceptually, we may consider theater students and agriculture students to be vastly different, but the evidence of these presentations shows that regardless of where NHS students find their passion, they will learn leadership skills, problem solving skills, and collaboration skills. These are just two examples of all the outstanding educational opportunities provided to our students at Norfolk High School. We have 25 NSAA (Nebraska Schools Activities Association) sanctioned activities and athletics, 36 Advanced Placement and/or dual credit course offerings, numerous student clubs and organizations, and by fall of 2017, we will have Career Academies in all 6 clusters of the Nebraska Career Connections, and have improved our graduation rate from 76.07% in 2011 to 90.99% in 2016. NHS is a great place to be!
