NHS Principal chosen for 2018-2019

Norfolk Public Schools is excited to announce that Mr. Derek Ippensen has been selected as the 2018-2019 Principal of Norfolk Senior High School. Mr. Ippensen will replace Mr. Jake Luhr, who will become the Superintendent of Battle Creek Public Schools.  Mr. Ippensen currently serves as the PK-12 Principal for Shickley Public Schools.

The  interview committee (which included administrators, teachers, classified staff, parents, and students) that selected Mr. Ippensen was impressed with several of the candidates, but felt that Mr. Ippensen was the right person to serve as the next leader of NHS.  Mr. Ippensen will bring a wide variety of experiences and skills to Norfolk High School and is a great fit for our school. The interview committee believes that Mr. Ippensen will meet the staff and students of Norfolk High where they are, honor where they have come from, keep them on their current path of growth and improvement, and help them become even better than they are today.

Mr. Ippensen is excited to join the Norfolk Public Schools team, lead Norfolk High School, and move back to northeast Nebraska.  Mr. Ippensen is originally from West Point, Nebraska. Not only did he graduate from West Point, but he also taught, coached, and served as Activities Director in West Point, prior to moving to Shickley.

Dr. Thompson, Superintendent of Norfolk Public Schools said, “I feel confident that Mr. Ippensen is a great choice for Norfolk Senior High. Not only does he have the skills and characteristics that we were looking for, but he has a heart for kids and a passion for excellence.”

Mr. Ippensen will start at Norfolk High School on July 1, 2018.
