February is Nebraska Mentoring Month. Join TeamMates at NPS today!

Governor Jim Pillen has declared February Nebraska Mentoring Month. "We know the hope that mentoring gives to kids. There is nothing as rewarding as being a mentor to a young person," said Governor Pillen.

Meeting one hour a week consistently over time can make an amazing impact in the life of a child. Data collected verifies that TeamMates mentees show an improvement in grades, have fewer disciplinary referrals, and improve their attendance.

Norfolk TeamMates serves students 5th-12th grade. TeamMates is for students who could benefit from the extra support and encouragement of another caring adult in their life. Currently, Norfolk has around 60 matches with around 20 more students waiting for a mentor. Mentors meet with students typically during their lunch or an open period for approximately an hour a week. Some optional activities are bowling, Mercy Meals, Sioux City Hockey game, and the Husker Spring game.

To help aid in attracting new mentors, the state of Nebraska is relaunching its program to allow state teammates to modify their work schedules, enabling them to volunteer as mentors each week.
