Students from Grant elementary recently performed in an all school concert on December 11.   Performing is a great way to build teamwork and confidence among students! In addition to memorizing several songs to sing, select 4th grade students learned parts on instruments.  This included drums, xylophones, wood blocks and hand bells.  The hand bell parts take extra focus and practice.  Each student…

Ringing in the Christmas Spirit

Here at Grant Elementary we are ringing in the Christmas spirit! Our students have decorated trees that deck our halls for a few weeks before they are sent to brighten up the days for the residents at the veteran’s home here in Norfolk! Thankful First Graders

As the weather is getting colder, first grade has been talking a lot about what they are thankful for. They learned what it means to be thankful and talked about all the different ways that they can be thankful. Every child is an artist.  However, children need an opportunity and time to use their own creativity to experiment and create their own authentic art.  My goal is to give students this opportunity in art class. I believe art should be about the process of learning and creating, not just about an end product.

It has been a very busy beginning to the 2023 school year, and it only gets more fun and busy here on out. The students really enjoyed their football unit. They got to do so many different games involving throwing and catching a football. We have many fun activities coming up like volleyball, basketball, and tumbling..

Patriot’s Day in 4th Grade

The 4th graders at Grant Elementary school learned about the history of Patriot’s Day. They learned about the incredible importance of our nation’s first responders when the attack on America happened on September 11, 2001. We discussed the bravery, courage, and sacrifice made by the first responders. Fourth graders remembered Patriot’s Day by writing to our local police officers and firefighters.…

Prime Time Family Reading

If you walk by Grant Elementary on a Tuesday evening this time of year, you will see some of our families participating in Prime Time Family Reading Time.  This program, sponsored by Humanities Nebraska, is not new to the community of Norfolk.  It takes place each year at a couple of the elementary schools, as well as the Norfolk Library.  Families are invited for a meal, storytime, discussion,…

2nd Graders are Back to School!

Grant 2nd graders were so excited to start school!  Many fun activities consisted of getting to know each other and learning about our school family.  We started the first day of school with First Day Jitters!  We read a book about jitters, got to sample jitter juice and create a class graph.  We found out we really don’t have jitters anymore, just excited for school to start.
