From the Computer and Library Desks of Mrs. Sudbeck

Well, we are off to another great start for our school year. It doesn't take long and the Montessori students know how to log into the computers using their usernames and passwords. Even the kindergarten class is getting a hand (literally) on mouse control. And for all the other students in 1st through 4th grade, it's all coming back to them. "Oh yes, I remember now!" can be heard from many of them as they come into the computer lab and get logged on and ready for instructions. There is always new things to learn in the computer lab. Montessori 3rd and 4th graders have been getting informed on the many things that can be done through Google / Google Chrome. The Google drive is going to take them many places this year. A couple of things that we do remember and practice in lab is: 1) Internet safety comes first; and 2) Learn by doing plays a big part in remembering how to navigate through things.

As far as the library is going, Atrium program is up and running. New student names have been added in and we have already had books checked out (and back in). These Montessori students are BIG readers. At the time of this article, (Monday, Aug.24) they have read and taken Accelerated Reading quizzes on 136 books, which accounts for 714,207 words read. This is just for AR and does not include anything that has been checked out of the library for leisure reading. Also, we have not gotten our kindergarten started in Accelerated Reading, yet. That will come in time. New books will be arriving soon and will get cataloged and shelved as soon as possible.
