Mrs. Olenich's 1st and 2nd grade news

Another year is off to a great start. September has been a very busy month at Montessori and October will be much the same!

Our contract work has consisted of many jobs to help children in both the first and second grades with their math facts. We have also worked on patterning, place value and story problems. Students have had many hands on opportunities to work with numbers and the golden beads. The first and second grade students are also been utilizing Xtra Math and IXL. These two programs are also available for home use.

The students have also been busy working on various language and cultural jobs. We have focused on the life cycle of butterflies. Having live butterflies in the classroom is an exciting learning experience! We are starting our plant unit also. We have explored plants around our school. We also have a sunflower plant in our classroom that provides many learning opportunities. There may be a possible trip to the Apple Orchard.

Grandparent's Day was a huge success. We had many visitors and positive reactions. The children were very excited and proud. The children also loved sharing the opportunity to visit the book fair with their grandparents. We were also able to buddy read with our preschool partners. The fourth grade students, along with our class, created sidewalk art for the International Day of Peace. Once again Parent-Teacher Conferences were a huge success. It is always good to meet with the parents and share the student's successes. We have been one busy class!
