Ms. Bennett's Art Class

Ms. Bennett's Art Class

Once again the art room is in full swing at Lincoln School! In Kindergarten, students have been creating artworks inspired by master artists. Each lesson begins with an introduction to a famous artist. So far we have studied the works of Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. Art skills taught at this early age are many. Color, line and shapes have been the focus on our last two projects. Our next project will be creating a pumpkin patch.
1st and 2nd grade combo classes have just completed their hot air balloons. They did a super job! The 1st graders were introduced to watercolor for this project and the 2nd graders were more than willing to give them a hand when needed. Drawing and painting skills were utilized to create these awesome artworks. Be sure to visit the halls on the second floor to enjoy the displays. "Splat the Cat "collages are next on the agenda.
CRAZY HAIR DAY! 3rd graders began the year with this fun project. I like beginning the year with this lesson because students get the opportunity to review the elements of art and utilize many of the skills that were taught last year. The objective was to start with a self portrait, then use a variety of line and shapes to create the hair. Craftsmanship was discussed and encouraged as they completed this work with markers. "Mixed Media Abstract Cats" inspired by artist Laural Burch is on the agenda next for this class!
4th graders have just completed their watercolor tropical birds. The focus of this project was to experiment with several painting techniques exclusive to the medium of watercolor. Drawing, painting and color blending were only a few skills the students practiced to create these wonderful birds. What's next for the 4th graders? They will build on their skills in drawing and their knowledge of applying color by creating a fall leaf collage in chalk pastels.
As you can see, art classes have been busy! We have very creative students here at Lincoln school and I am proud and honored to have the opportunity to help them grow as artists!
