Brrrrrrr! It's cold outside and what a perfect time to find a good book to read. The students here at Montessori have been reading up a storm. Not quite a snowstorm, but a storm.
One reason would be when it's too cold to play outside, we encourage our students to READ! Montessori's 1st through 4th graders know that if they make their Accelerated Reading (AR) goal this quarter, they get to go swimming at the YMCA. This has been a reward goal for several years now. (Don't worry kindergarten, you will get your chance next year.)
Another reason for the reading storm is that it's getting close to the voting time for the Nebraska Golden Sower Award. The students vote on their favorite 2015-2016 Golden Sower nominee title. When all the votes are tallied statewide, a winner will be announced. Good luck nominees!!!!
One final thought regarding reading, especially when it's cold outside. Buddy reading is a great way for our students to implement the Montessori teachings of our older students working with our younger students.
