Mrs. Olenich's First and Second Grade Classroom

September has been a very busy month at Montessori and October will be much the same. The school year is off to a great start!

Contract work has consisted of many jobs to help children in both the first and second grades with their math facts. We have also worked on patterning, place value and story problems. Students have had many hands on opportunities to work with numbers and the golden beads. The first and second grade students have been utilizing Xtra Math and IXL. These two programs are also available for home use.

The students have also been busy working on various language and cultural jobs. We have focused on the life cycle of ladybugs. Having live ladybugs in the classroom was an exciting learning experience! Students have also been studying the seven continents. World puzzle maps and punch maps have been completed and are on display.

One of the main focuses for this year is manners and peace education. We will focus on one particular word each month. September's word was using please and October will focus on thank you. The fourth grade students, along with our class, created sidewalk art for the International Day of Peace.

Our class and school had many visitors and positive reactions for Grandparent's Day. The children were very excited and proud. Once again Parent-Teacher Conferences were a huge success. It is always good to meet with the parents and share the student's successes and work We have been one busy class!
