Montessori Music News

Greetings from the Montessori Music Department! Kindergarten students have
been very busy learning many new things: fast and slow music, loud and soft,
matching pitch, melodic direction, and voice choices. They enjoy singing
seasonal songs with actions. Our favorites are Johnny Appleseed, fall, and
Halloween songs! We are also learning a neat sound story with cues!

First and second grades have been learning to recognize notes and symbols
in their music. They enjoy finding many new things: quarter notes,
eighth notes, half notes, rests, bar lines, double bar lines, treble clef, and
the staff, just to name a few. One of our favorite songs this season must
be Pumpkin Stew! We also enjoyed reading and following a listening map
to a classical piece "In the Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg."

Third and fourth grade have also been very busy! They are learning about
time signatures and completed a project creating four beat patterns. They
came up with a short phrase with fall or Halloween words and then
figured out a rhythm pattern to match. They finished by illustrating with
creative art. The students have been learning solfege with correct hand
motions. They are also doing and awesome job singing two and three
part canons! Some of our favorites are: Are You Sleeping?, Peace Round
and the Ghost of John.
