First and Second Grade News - Vanness

Spring is just around the corner!  The past few months have just flown by and our classroom has been buzzing with activity.

First of all, I would like to say thank you to all of the parents for attending parent-teacher conferences that we had at the beginning of February.  It is so nice to sit down and talk with each of you.  We have the greatest parents at Lincoln/Montessori, and I know that all of the staff here would agree.

We loved celebrating with our friends on Valentine’s Day.  We had amazing and creative Valentine boxes and bags and it was so much fun to see all of the creativity that went into making them.

Our classroom has been filled with activity this past month.  In our cultural area we have been studying President’s Day, Groundhog’s Day, and learning about people who have changed the world during Black History Month.  We had visitors from Russia and the Republic of Georgia tell us about their culture and country. (Thank you Duskins!)  We also had visitors from the middle school JOOI club read to our students.  Our school was also able to see a presentation from the Orphan Grain Train/Mercy Meals that showed us where our donations are used to help others all around the world.

We are hard at work on our contracts too.  In the math area we have been working on subtraction with and without borrowing, place value, addition with carrying, telling time, ordering numbers, money and fractions.  In the language area we have covered topics such as contractions, homophones, classification, graphemes and grammar work just to name a few.

 Happy March everyone!
