Wow! I can’t believe it is already January and we will be celebrating our 100th day of school! I have a wonderful class of 23 first and second-graders. We have already accomplished lots of learning so far this school year. We just finished learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and they each wrote about their dreams for the world. While learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream for peace, it was heartwarming to hear them compare it to how we practice peace each day at school.
In math, we have used the Montessori math materials to learn place value, addition, subtraction, and multiplication. We have also learned how to identify if a number is even or odd, how to read graphs and calendars, and so much more!
In language, we have been using the Montessori language materials to read short and long vowel words; and to read words with consonant blends and digraphs. We have also been working with the Word Study materials. This material helps us to learn compound words, homophones, contractions, and alphabetizing words. Using Word Study materials is always a favorite work to do!
