Wrestling Room Gets Major Upgrade

Wrestling at Norfolk Senior High School comes with standards and expectations, improving, competing, and love for the sport. Work hard, give 100 percent effort, and keep going when the going gets tough.

First, Norfolk's wrestling room in the Senior High needed upgrades, Norfolk Jr. Wrestling started a fundraiser to support that cause. To pay for these upgrades, chocolate candy bars were sold by the box to students and staff by wrestlers, Norfolk Jr. High wrestlers also helped sell candy bars. The fundraiser was going to recognize all Norfolk Wrestling state medalist history. No wrestling records have ever been displayed in the Norfolk Senior High until now, Norfolk Jr. Wrestling purchased the new mat that everyone saw at state wrestling.

Next, Norfolk Senior High has many state qualifiers and champions. Norfolk has four state champions and 106 state qualifiers. Norfolk has 14 seniors, 12 juniors, 11 sophomores, and 18 freshmen wrestlers this year in a Norfolk Singlet. A new singlet is being worked on by Norfolk Wrestling, it is going to be a pin cancer singlet, projected to be finished January of 2016. Private donations are funding this project for the singlets to be made.

Last, wrestling mats and district wrestling change this year. District Wrestling will be held at the Norfolk Senior High on February 13th, 10:00 a.m. State wrestling starts in Omaha, Nebraska, on February 18th, 19th, and 20th, at the Century Link Center. Norfolk, Nebraska is projected to place in the top 5 if healthy, Norfolk is currently ranked 10th for the preseason. Norfolk Wrestling mats will be replaced in the future as the next upgrade, the mats have been at the school for over 25 years. New wrestling mats are lighter to carry and transport compared to heavy, dense mats to lug around.

To sum up, Wrestling at Norfolk Senior High School comes with standards and expectations, improving, competing, and love for the sport. (Working hard, giving 100 percent effort, keep going when the going gets tough.) These are life lessons that everyone will use or should learn to be successful and prosper greatly in the future.
