Testing Season At NHS

Article by Sara Rojas

April is here, the snow is melting and the birds are starting to sing again. So, what is happening at Norfolk Senior High this spring? MAP and NeSA testing.

The week of April 5, students started to take the tests. The stress could be felt in the halls. Not only juniors were stressed, but also freshmen and sophomores as they prepared to do their best on the tests.

Some of the students really need a good grade or they may not be able to take certain classes. MAP and NeSA testing has made students think twice before deciding not to pay attention in class. The MAP tests include areas like language and English; NeSA tests include science and math as well.

Due to MAP and NeSA testing, students will have an altered schedule on Tuesday, April 5; Thursday, April 7; and Friday April 8. The following week the days will be Tuesday, April 12 and Thursday, April 14. The week after that, the testing days will be Tuesday, April 19 and Thursday, April 21. During these days students will not have Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO), and period 8 will end at 3:25.  "I think they [MAP and NeSA testing] are for finding a base to start, but I don't think they should be used to determine children's intelligence" Abigail Gonzalez, sophomore, said.

So what do students think about this?  "I think they [Map and NeSA testing] are important, because they help us with our basic understanding of Math, English and Science," Alannah Goode, junior, said.  "[MAP and NeSA testing] gives the school and teachers an idea on what they have to work on more" Amber Foltz, freshman, said.

To sum up, some students might think MAP and NeSA testing is a waste of time, but they are actually not. It is a fact that those tests are the one that tell the teachers what they need to teach and what they do not, depending on their students' scores. This week just relax, do your best and rock the test!
