Washington Celebrates Arbor Day
Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. As a formal holiday, it was first observed in 1872, in Nebraska.
Washington Elementary celebrated Arbor Day April 29th with a tree planting ceremony. The afternoon started off with tree planting at 2:00. Officials from the City of Norfolk Tree Board along with the Mayor Sue Fuchtman came to help plant the tree. Our first graders from Ms Mills and Ms Rookaird class helped with planting the tree by shoveling dirt and topping it off with mulch. The students have been studying about Earth Day and Arbor Day in the classroom.
