Mrs. Dahlkoetter’s and Miss Howard’s first graders at Grant Elementary took a spring field trip to the Norfolk Public Library.  Students had a tour of the amazing things that are available at the library beyond just checking out books.  In the tour, students learned about the 3D printer, the take home kits and games available, how library books are given “armor” to help them last and how the drive…

The 4th grade is participating in the Great Mail Race this school year. Students wrote letters to a 4th grade class in each of the fifty states. Students completed a questionnaire to go with the letter. They shared about their interests, Grant school, Norfolk and facts about Nebraska. One unique fact is that Nebraska is the only state with a unicameral.

In music class, third graders have been using animal names to create rhythm compositions. We started by sorting animals according to their rhythmic syllables.  Then students worked together to decide what order to arrange them. This was paired with a song we’ve learned called “We’re Off to the Zoo!” After that we practiced playing the rhythms on various instruments.  We used xylophones, metallophones,…

Upon completion of our Grant School One Book, The World According to Humphrey, Grant held two special events. Grant welcomed over 200 guests at Family Reading Night!  Kids had fun passing the “hot” hamster, making Pete the Cat bookmarks, creating headbands, and more! Thank you to all who attended!

Since most of you are not able to observe what is going on in Third Grade, I will give you a brief explanation! The third-grade classes have spent some time learning about animals and their inherited traits along with the life cycles of different animals. We have also learned about forces and interactions. Then at the end of the third quarter they got to reinforce their knowledge about science concepts…

The art room at Grant is buzzing with creative energy as students put the finishing touches on their clay projects!  All classes have successfully completed forming their clay, and students are in the middle of painting their masterpieces and to take home to share with families.

With an AMAZING grant from Humanities Nebraska, Grant Elementary focused on encouraging family engagement!  Throughout the year, grant funds were spent on completing family packages that included a book and family activities.  Books introduced different reading abilities, genres, holidays, seasons, and various cultures.

Kindergarten students started off the week by celebrating the 100th day of school!  These last 100 days have been filled with friendships, learning, and growing!  Students had fun with a search for 100 hidden hearts, a 100-year old person craft, writing numbers to 100, making a 100 day snack, and more.  Hooray for the 100th day!  

It has been a very busy beginning to 2025, and it only gets more fun and busy here on out. The students really enjoyed their tumbling unit. They got to do so many different stunts and exercises, like forward and backward rolls, wheelbarrow’s, and cartwheels. Our upcoming units include bowling, hockey, and baseball/softball.
