With an AMAZING grant from Humanities Nebraska, Grant Elementary focused on encouraging family engagement! Throughout the year, grant funds were spent on completing family packages that included a book and family activities. Books introduced different reading abilities, genres, holidays, seasons, and various cultures.
Our monthly packages were put on display in our school hallway. All students in our school got to see the packages on display, discuss what was in the packages, and then each student got their own individual ballot to vote which package they would like to possibly win and take home to complete with their families. The entire school body and staff were involved in sharing the excitement! Once a month at our morning meetings the prizes were presented to the winning students! These packages were then taken home to be shared and completed with the student and their family.
We saw the excitement at our morning meetings when packages were presented, other students would congratulate others, high fives, way to go's! It was also fun to see the excitement as new packages were displayed.
Thank you to Nebraska Humanities for a very rewarding project, 60 packages were created and distributed to our students and their families!
