There are more than 100 types of cancer and any part of the body can be affected. In 2008, 7.6 million people died of cancer.
What is our community doing to help? According to ndnforum, in April 17th during 7th period at Norfolk Senior High, a fundraiser was held in order to contribute to the Childhood Cancer Campaign. This fundraiser was called the "Battle of the Sevens." Students were asked to contribute to this cause during the week of April 20-23. All the funds raised will be used to help local families in their fight to beat cancer. NHS students so far have raised a little over 1,400 dollars ($1,400.26, to be exact).
Norfolk Panther JOOI Clubs have sponsored many carnivals in Children's Hospital in Omaha to raise money in order to help children and families from all over the state. Many of those families come from Norfolk and northeast Nebraska. JOOI is also responsible for removing the coins from The River, their wishing well, in the atrium of Children's Hospital. Every year they turn these "wishes" into funds for the hospital to help sick children. It's not unlikely for JOOI to pull out as much as 1,000 dollars in coins from The River.
Norfolk High School is proud to be a part of such a wonderful cause which is trying to help those children in their everyday fight to survive.
